February 2024 walk

February 2024 walk

The February walk from The Elms at Lutterworth was led by Martin.

Leaving the pub carpark we turned right heading towards the town centre.  After crossing the bridge we turned right into Riverside Rd, then right into Orange Hill, then left into Burton Close.  At the end of the close we went up the jitty and turned right going under the bridge.  Crossing 2 fields we reached the bridge over the M1.  Turning left we walked parallel with the motorway and in the second field bore right crossing a further 3 fields and the farm track to the edge of Thornborough Spinney.  The going along the edge of the spinney was very muddy with a fair number of puddles.  After 2 more fields we turned right and headed up towards Oback Farm where we had our greatest challenge of mud and water. Following the way markers over several fields we reached Waterfield Spinney and continued across another field then down to the River Swift.  Thankfully a new boardwalk made the crossing much safer before making our way uphill to Misterton.   After crossing the final field we turned right into the playground where we has our break. The walk continued along a metalled path to St Leonard's Church [This memorial walk has plaques commemorating 13 fallen soldiers in WW1 from the parish].   Reaching the church, we went through the churchyard and downhill to the river Swift then uphill to the edge of the M1.  Turning right we made our way back to the bridge over the motorway.  We then retraced our steps back to the pub for a well-deserved sit down and a splendid lunch.

We are still in need of a volunteer for the November walk.
